Hello friends, Moka here! You know me as the paper sculptor who loves to travel. Well, recently I had a wonderful time exploring the United Kingdom.
Now, the United Kingdom is a special place with old castles, famous stories, and it’s yummy food. It reminded me a bit of India, with so much history packed into a small place. Come along as I share my United Kingdom’s journey!

- Capital: London (It’s HUGE and full of energy! And guess what? It’s expecting a big boost in tourism this year!)
- Largest City: London (Yep, it’s the biggest city too!)
- Official Language: English (but you’ll hear many accents, just like in India!)
- Nicknames: Great Britain, Blighty (Isn’t that cute?)
- Key Industries: Finance, technology, healthcare, and manufacturing. It’s a global leader in “fintech” in 2024!
- Geography: Green hills, rocky coastlines, cozy villages (A very different landscape from India!)
- Area Size: About 242,495 square kilometers (Smaller than India, but still big!)
- Population: Around 67 million people (That’s a lot less than India, but it’s growing!)
- Literacy Rate: Almost 99% (It’s very well-educated folks!)
Famous UK Landmarks: Like stepping into a storybook
Let me tell you about the amazing places I’ve seen in the United Kingdom. Each one felt like a page from a history book.
- Buckingham Palace: It’s the King who lives here now! King Charles III took the throne in 2022, and the palace is still a popular tourist spot. You can even visit the royal gardens this year!
- Big Ben: This tall clock tower is a symbol of London. Its chimes are famous! It has just undergone a big makeover and looks brand new.
- Stonehenge: These giant stones are very old and mysterious. Scientists are still learning new things about them!
- Tower of London: This old castle was once a prison and even a zoo! Last year, they’d had a special exhibit of the Crown Jewels to celebrate the Queen.
- Windsor Castle: Another beautiful castle, and it’s the largest one people live in! You can take more tours of the grounds this year.
- Edinburgh Castle: This castle in Scotland sits high on a hill, like a king watching over his land. It’s a big music and dance show there this year. It’s called “The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.”
- British Museum: Full of treasures from around the world, including some from India! It’s just opened a new gallery dedicated to South Asian art.
- Lake District: This area is full of beautiful lakes and mountains. I felt like I was in a painting. It’s celebrating its 70th birthday as a national park this year!
- York Minster: This huge church is full of colorful windows and carvings. They’ve just finished fixing a huge stained-glass window. It’s the biggest one from the Middle Ages!
British Culture: A Mix of Old and New
The United Kingdom has a special culture that’s both traditional and modern.
- The Royal Family has a new king, Charles III. It’s coronation in 2023 was a major United Kingdom’s cultural event.
- The Premier League is still the most-watched football league in the world. It’s a big part of British culture.
- Afternoon Tea: This is a special treat with tea, sandwiches, and cakes. It’s very fancy! There are lots of new places offering it with a modern twist.
- Shakespeare: He’s a famous writer from long ago. His stories are still performed in theaters today. There’s a new “Hamlet” play happening in 2024 with a famous actor!
- British Pubs: These are cozy places to have a drink and chat with friends. It’s become even more popular lately, with outdoor seating and takeaway options.
- Fish and Chips: Their national dish! It’s like our pakoras, but with fish.
